Australian Government Hearing Services Program

The Australian Government Hearing Services Program, sometimes referred to as the “hearing aids for pensioners program” aims to reduce the impact of hearing loss, by providing eligible pensioners with subsidised hearing services and solutions.

The services covered by the program may include a comprehensive hearing assessment by one of our highly trained clinicians, annual reviews, as well as, where appropriate, fully subsidised hearing aids. The optional subsidised annual maintenance agreement is also available at a small yearly fee, and covers repairs, servicing and batteries to support your hearing aids.

Audika is an accredited provider of hearing services under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program and we can guide you through the entire process.

Who is eligible?

You may qualify if you hold one of the following:

  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Gold or White Card (hearing-specific)
  • Sickness Allowance
  • Current Australian Defence Force member

If eligible, you can access free hearing assessments, fully subsidised hearing aids, and regular maintenance services. This can sometimes require a small co-payment for maintenance services.

How much is the government subsidy?

The government covers the full cost of a range of high-quality hearing aids from trusted brands, including models suited to both quiet and social settings. Pensioners who choose premium technology outside the subsidised range can top up to pay the difference, giving flexibility while still reducing overall costs.

How often can you receive new hearing aids?

Pensioners may be eligible for new hearing aids every five years, unless their hearing needs change sooner. Pensioners are also required to meet the refit criteria specified by the HSP program. The HSP  also covers repairs, ear moulds, and replacement batteries. This is only covered if a maintenance agreement is entered into, and there may be a co-payment as mentioned above.

For more information about program eligibility, visit our Hearing Services Program page or the official Australian Government Hearing Services Program website.

When to Get Your Hearing Tested

Hearing loss can happen gradually, making it difficult to notice at first. You may benefit from a free* hearing check if you:

  • Often ask people to repeat themselves
  • Find it difficult to follow group conversations
  • Turn the TV or radio volume higher than others prefer
  • Notice ringing or buzzing sounds in your ears

A quick hearing test at your nearest Audika clinic can detect any changes early and help you find the right solution.
