Do you sometimes find it hard to communicate with others? You find that people don't speak clearly or loudly enough, and as a result, you'd rather opt out of a conversation. However, if this is a common theme amongst all your friends and family, it might actually not be them – you might be beginning to experience hearing loss!

It can be totally frustrating to be left out of table talk, so what's the solution? Well, if you think you might have hearing loss, we have some tips for you to help you get back into the conversation. Communicating with your friends and family more easily again.

Head to your nearest  hearing clinic

The longer you delay getting help the more challenging it is to address your hearing problems.

First thing’s first, you need to get your hearing checked! If you think you have a hearing problem, you'll want to get it checked out as soon as possible.! The longer you wait to get help, the more challenging it is to address your hearing problems. If you are over 26, your first hearing check at your nearest Audika clinic is free, so you have nothing to lose, and only better hearing and communication to gain!

Make it easy on yourself

Restaurants can be a challenge for people with hearing loss as the background noise can overwhelm what you want to hear. If you know you're going out to dinner with friends and know the restaurant, call ahead and see if you can get a table in the quietest spot and at the quietest time. It's little things like this that can make your life much easier.

Concentrate on body language

It can still be a challenge to hear people even after the previous tips, especially if you're out and about. However, communicating efficiently with people (no matter if they have hearing loss or not) is all about using all the cues you can.

Face the speaker full on as best as you can and try to give them your individual attention. By doing this, you will also be able to pick up on  body cues that people so often rely on to communicate meaning. Sometimes, if you miss parts of a story, you can still catch enough to have it figured out in the end so you don't have to interrupting repeatedly. However if you can't piece things together, you shouldn't be afraid to say so!
